THE LABORATORY FOR GLOBAL PERFORMANCE & POLITICS - Flash Acts Festival
Now streaming
This one of a kind virtual performance festival brings together twenty brilliant playwrights from the US and Russia, all creating ten-minute plays that explore the timely and resonant theme of isolation in ways that span the geopolitical, psychological, spiritual, and intimately personal - virtual productions, panels/forums, and nightly music lounge events. The resulting forty virtual productions will offer audiences a feast of theatrical innovation - bold, tender, funny, and moving. Most of all, in a time where so much feels broken and fractured in the world, and when Russians' and Americans' knowledge of one another is often filtered through the distorting lens of politics, Flash Acts models a celebratory, inclusive way of coming together across polarizing difference to build new relationships and understandings, and to foster community, solidarity, friendship, and hope. Flash Acts features a remarkable roster of leading playwrights, directors and performers from Russia and the US including Lab Think Tank/ Associate Artists and Campus Cohort members Christine Evans, Natsu Onoda Power, Heather Raffo, Maya Roth, and many other members of The Lab's global family. The online festival schedule and more details about the event can be found at the link below.

RORSCHACH THEATRE - INDELIBLE: Tiny Works of Impossibility
Every Friday and ongoing
Rorschach has always had a love affair with what we call “impossible stage directions.” We are drawn to moments in which playwrights invite us to create theatre magic and to embody something abstract in a tangible way. Over the coming weeks, we’re going to explore the phenomenon of Impossible Stage Directions through a new project called Indelible. Each week we announce a new challenge: an actual stage direction from a play we’ve produced. Commissioned Rorschach artists will have a week to interpret that stage direction as a photo, video or audio clip.

SHAKESPEARE THEATRE COMPANY - Academy for Classical Acting 3 Radio Plays
Now available as podcasts
Embracing the ubiquity of contemporary podcasts while harkening to the earlier radio dramas devised by the great actor and director Orson Welles, Shakespeare Theatre Company’s Academy for Classical Acting presents its summer repertory season of three radio plays: Hamlet by William Shakespeare, Man and Superman by George Bernard Shaw, and Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. Returning to the ACA after 2019’s production of As You Like It, award-winning director and playwright Aaron Posner directs his adaptation of George Bernard Shaw’s Man and Superman. Posner’s adaption also marks the first ACA production of a 20th century classic. Helen Hayes Award winner Holly Twyford makes her ACA debut as the director of Romeo and Juliet and ACA Program Director Alec Wild directs Hamlet. “Theatre, more than any other storytelling medium, asks the audience to contribute to the story by lending their imaginations to the experience.” ACA Program Director Alec Wild says, “Radio doubles down on this idea. Everything is up to the imagination of the audience! It is arguably the most purely theatrical experience, and we’re thrilled to be adding these audio dramas to the STC/ACA repertoire.”

SPOOKY ACTION THEATER - Podcast of Moderation
Available starting October 27, 2020
Moderation is a new play by Kevin Kautzman. Over three acts, the play follows social media content moderators struggling at work. People have called it “dark and funny” and a “psychological thriller.” Moderation speaks to important issues like brainsickness from overexposure to the fringes of the Internet and social media, as well as our troubling dependence on “big tech” even as it seems to threaten our very humanity. In the spring of 2020, Spooky Action Theatre presented a public reading of the play via Zoom, from which the podcast release on this website was adapted, featuring Amanda Forstrom and Robert Bowen Smith with stage directions from Liz Divine and music by Shawn Phillips, directeed by Brandon McCoy. This podcast is brought to you by Crying Hill Media and executive producer Jeff Giesea. Intended for an adult audience. Listen via iTunes, Spotify and Stitcher.
